Sugar Mountain plans 'March Madness'

Sugar Mountain Resort is prepping for "March Madness," which means discounts for skiers and snowboarders and fun events to wrap up the season.
Beginning March 4, guests can expect 25 percent savings on lift tickets, rental equipment and lessons for the remainder of the season. Winter value packages also are discounted 40 percent.
Other events include:
March 2: Boss Hawg will bring its distinctive bluegrass music to the lodge at 4 p.m. March 2 for two hours of foot-tapping music. The band will return again at 4 p.m. on closing day.
March 3: Sugar Bear's birthday celebration includes a Great Bear Race, special treats and cupcakes and ice cream.
March 10: Sugar Mountain will celebrate the life of the late Dick Trundy, a decorated Marine Corps general and aviator who served as Sugar Mountain Resort's director of operations after his retirement from the service. The Dick Trundy Sugar Cup Giant Slalom competition is a NASTAR-style competition open to skiers and snowboarders from the age of 4 to seniors 65 years and older. Event registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with racing starting at 9 a.m. on Big Red.
The $15 entry fee goes to the American Cancer Society. Additional donations are always appreciated.
March 17: The seventh annual Easter egg hunt on the slopes begins at 9 a.m. at the bottom of the No. 1 Summit lift. Dress in your Easter best costume and join Sugar Bear and Sweetie Bear in the snow in search of prize-filled eggs. One lucky skier or snowboarder will find an egg containing a 2013-14 Sugar Mountain season pass.
The egg hunt is free for children 12 and younger with a valid lift ticket or pass.
The Sugar Mountain Sports Shop also will offer all 2014 Spyder sample apparel for 30 percent off retail prices. Remaining 2013 items will be half price, and any remaining 2012 samples will be slashed to 60 percent off.
