Structure fire to New River Hills building
by Allison Haver
There was some fire and extensive smoke
damage in a late afternoon fire to a New River Hills building on Monday.
The call came in for
Boone Fire at 4:12 p.m. to 402 New River Hills, where smoke was pouring from the lowest level of
the structure. A fire was found when firefighters entered the basement.
According to Boone Fire Marshall Ronnie Marsh, the fire started in the dust collection system of the machinery used in the building.
The 21 Boone firefighters, who responded to the scene, had the blaze under control within 15 minutes according to Marsh.
"It did not take long to get under control although we had to go through some snow conditions to get there," Marsh said. "Even though it was a fairly decent day some conditions are a little bit more hazardous to get to due to the recent weather."
Marsh said that the department estimated about $30,0000 worth of damage to the building.
