Springer takes time off to campaign

Britt Springer, assistant district attorney for the 24th Judicial District and a candidate for district attorney, confirmed Thursday that she is using three and a half weeks of vacation time between now and the May 6 primary election to campaign.
Springer said she submitted the vacation request six months ago and has been saving up vacation days for more than a year and a half in anticipation of the election.
"I didn't want any thought of me politicking on state time," Springer said. "I knew that getting close to the election I was going to have a lot of work to do."
Springer said Interim District Attorney Bob Orr has stepped in to aid Assistant District Attorney Michael Holmes in prosecuting a murder trial in Yancey County this week.
