Sen. Dan Soucek of Boone has been appointed to serve as
chairman of the Legislative Ethics Committee, his office announced Thursday.
The ethics committee is an equally bipartisan group of legislators from the House and Senate responsible for creating and maintaining ethical standards among members of the General Assembly and their staffs.
The committee's duties include issuing advisory opinions to other legislators on potential ethical issues, reviewing formal advisory opinions of the State Ethics Commission and conducting investigations of complaints alleging unethical activity on the part of legislators and legislative employees.
This is Soucek's second term as a member of the committee, having been appointed as a member during his first term in 2011.
Soucek also serves as chairman of the Senate Education Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education.
