Seven Devils Town Council loses one, appoints another

by Anna Oakes

The Seven Devils Town Council unanimously voted to appoint David Hooper to the council seat vacated by Kathy Copley during a special meeting Jan. 5.

Hooper is a volunteer firefighter who previously served as chairman of the Seven Devils Planning Board.

Copley was re-elected to a two-year term on the council in November 2011,  but indicated her wish to resign prior to being sworn in, said Ed Evans, Seven Devils town manger.

Copley was sworn in in December, but subsequently submitted her resignation.

When a council seat is vacated, the council may vote to fill the seat or to leave it unfilled, Evans said.  The council accepted applications and received two — one from Hooper and one from Richard DeMott, a longtime council member who was defeated in last year's election.

Copley could not be reached for comment as of presstime.
