Second man arrested in home invasion

The second suspect in a violent home invasion has now been identified and arrested, Boone Police Department announced Friday morning.

Wyatt Boyd Golter Brown, 20, of Madison, a student at Appalachian State University, was identified as a suspect and voluntarily went to the police station Thursday evening, according to Sgt. Matt Stevens.

Brown was charged with felony first-degree burglary, felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. He was held at the Watauga Detention Center in lieu of a  $100,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18.

Police were called to an apartment on Coffey Street around 7 p.m. Wednesday, where residents said they had been attacked in their home by two masked men armed with a club and hammer.

The suspects demanded money and drugs, according to police.

The residents were joined by neighbors in fighting off both intruders and subduing one of the attackers until police arrived. The second suspect escaped.

One resident of the apartment took himself to Watauga Medical Center with minor injuries, according to police.

The detained suspect was identified as Travis Dean Edgerton, 20, an ASU student from Chapel Hill. Edgerton was charged with felony burglary, felony attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.

He was held at the Watauga Detention Center in lieu of a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 18.
