Search warrant from shooting released

A search warrant executed following the fatal shooting July 26
in Deep Gap shows that investigators seized a 12-guage shotgun, shotgun shells, a .40-caliber
pistol and other items from the scene on Hardin Road.
Special Agent Shane Greene of the State Bureau of Investigation, who received the search warrant around 5:45 a.m. that morning, found these items during his search of three trucks and the mobile home at 2130 Hardin Road:
— Glock Model 22 .40 S&W caliber
— Uniform pants with duty belt, boots and mobile radio
— 3 spent .40 S&W cartridge cases
— Bullet fragments
— 3 Winchester shotgun shells
— Springfield Arms 12 gauge shotgun
— Toy brown and silver rifle
— DNA swab
— Buck fixed blade knife
— Remington knife sheath
In his request for the search warrant, Greene describes the incident: "At approximately 12:50 a.m. on July 26, 2012, Deputies William Mast and Preston Russell responded to an open line 911 call at 2130 Hardin Road, Boone, NC 28607. When officers arrived the suspect came to the door armed with a shotgun. Shortly thereafter suspect and officers fired. Injuries received by the suspect were fatal and Officer Mast was transported to the hospital."
Mast, 23, died of his injuries and was buried Tuesday with law enforcement honors and a massive funeral procession through Watauga County.
The suspect, 33-year-old Mitchell Allen Trivette, a self-employed carpenter, was buried Wednesday at Pilot Mountain Baptist Church.
