A man riding a scooter without a helmet was airlifted to Johnson City Medical Center on Saturday morning after wrecking in Valle Crucis.
David Frank Mast, 58, was riding the Japanese-made scooter near his home at 333 Frank Mast Road when the accident occurred around 8:20 a.m., according to Trooper D.R. Alexander of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
When the scooter crashed, it caused Mast to strike his head on the asphalt and suffer cuts and bruises on his legs.
WINGS Air Rescue transported the man from a landing zone at Valle Crucis School due to the possibility of a severe head injury, Alexander said.
