Police: Shoplifters caught with $3,700 of items
A citizen complaint of possible shoplifting led police to Walgreens on April 1, according to police.
There they arrested 41-year-old Michael Mehaffey of Claremont and 41-year-old Carl Pottschmidt of Conover. Each was charged with two counts of felony larceny and three counts of misdemeanor larceny, according to police.
The men were issued $10,000 secured bonds and are scheduled to appear in court May 5.
Officers responding to the complaint found antacids, razors, antibiotic ointment, toothpaste and over-the-counter medications totaling more than $3,700 in their possession. The officers' investigation revealed that the duo also had visited CVS Pharmacy, Harris Teeter, Rite-Aid and Food Lion before they were apprehended.
