A young woman was taken to Watauga Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon after being hit by a car while crossing N.C. 105 Extension in Boone.

A Dodge Stratus was turning right from U.S. 421 onto the N.C. 105 Extension near Boone Point at about 2:45 p.m. when the driver failed to see the pedestrian crossing the road, said Officer Bradley Swift of the Boone Police Department.

The pedestrian was knocked onto the hood of the vehicle and then slid off onto the road, Swift said.

The woman, identified by the police report as 19-year-old Arden Stigers of Cary, suffered road rash to her arm and possibly other injuries but was conscious and alert while being assisted by Watauga Medics.

The driver, Rachel Leigh Hughes, 22, of Deep Gap, was cited for failure to reduce speed, according to the police report.
