A 27-year-old Banner Elk man was hospitalized Sunday evening after walking into the path of a car on West King Street, according to police reports.
According to witnesses, Clayton Monroe Shook was standing near the guardrail on the shoulder of West King Street near Eggers Lane before the accident occurred around 6:30 p.m., police said.
He walked toward the road waving his arms in an apparent attempt to stop a vehicle when he walked into the path of a 1997 Geo driven by 23-year-old Megan Lynne Lipford of Lenoir, the report states.
Medics transported Shook to Watauga Medical Center, where he was no longer listed as a patient Tuesday.
Lipford was not charged, according to the police report.
