Opposed to Syria strikes

by Anna Oakes

A crowd gathers outside the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts on King Street in Boone to protest potential military action in Syria, displaying peace signs and shouting 'No more war.' The protest was organized via a MoveOn.org civic action website.

A recent poll of 600 voters conducted Sept. 6 to 9 by Raleigh-based Public Policy Polling finds that most North Carolinians oppose a missile strike in Syria, which President Barack Obama says is necessary following Aug. 21 chemical gas attacks. A majority  -- 62 percent -- of respondents oppose U.S. military action in Syria, while 19 percent support action and 19 percent are not sure, according to the poll.
