Officers conduct 'narcotics roundup'

The Watauga County Sheriff's Office conducted a "narcotics roundup" on Aug. 1 to serve drug-related warrants on 19 individuals, the office announced Thursday.


The warrants stemmed from covert and overt operations during the last several months and totaled 79 charges, most of which were felonies.


Six suspects were arrested, and detectives are still looking for the remaining suspects.

Those arrested included:


-- Isabella Merendino, 21, of 1381 Highland Hall Road, Apt. 2, Boone. A search of Merendino's apartment located 10 marijuana plants in her bedroom, according to the sheriff's office.


Merendino was charged with two counts of possession of a schedule I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms and Ecstasy), manufacturing a schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana), possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff's office.


She was issued a $75,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.


-- Larry Eugene Coffey, 49, of 414 Huffman Road, Vilas, was charged after detectives locate 19 mature marijuana plants in his backyard, according to the sheriff's office.


He was charged with manufacturing a schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana), possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.


Coffey was issued a $10,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.


-- Deloris Ann Hedrick, 42, of 263 Hardaman Circle, Boone, was charged after detectives and probation officials searched her home.


The sheriff's office reported finding four grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, as well as a handgun, which Hedrick is not allowed to possess as a convicted felon.


She was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a felon, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hedrick was issued a $20,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.


-- Heather Nelson, 20, of 3296 Meat Camp Road, Boone, was charged after detectives located two volatile "shake and bake" meth labs, meth precursors and an older meth lab in the trash at her home, according to the sheriff's office.


She was charged with two counts of trafficking in methamphetamine, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of meth precursors, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia, officers reported.


Nelson was issued a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.


-- Brianna Nicole Kaylor, 20, was arrested following an undercover operation at 485 Yosef Drive, Apt. F, Boone, in which detectives allegedly purchased "molly," or powdered ecstasy, according to the sheriff's office.


Kaylor was charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance (Ecstasy), sale or delivery of Ecstasy, and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.


She was issued a $20,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.


-- Shane Mabry, 22, of 3071 U.S 421 North, Boone, was charged with manufacturing a schedule I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms), manufacturing a controlled substance within 300 feet of a school or daycare, possession with intent to sell or deliver a schedule I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms), maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Mabry was issued a $75,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 19.
