Newly elected to be sworn in Monday
by Kellen Moore
The election hoopla finally has ended, and newly elected representatives will be sworn in to office Monday.
At 9 a.m. at the Watauga County Courthouse, Judge Greg Horne is expected to swear-in new Watauga County Board of Education members Ron Henries, Barbara Kinsey and Brenda Reese.
Watauga County Register of Deeds JoAnn Townsend, her staff, and the Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor Chris Stevens also will be sworn in at that time.
At 4:30 p.m., Commissioners-elect John Welch, Billy Kennedy and Perry Yates will take their oaths of office at the Commissioners Board Room in the Watauga County Administration Building.
The addition of new members will cause a schedule change for the Board of Commissioners. The board will not hold its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.
Instead, the current board will meet at 8 a.m. Monday to open the meeting, adopt the minutes and call for a recess until 5:30 p.m.
With the new members sworn in, the board will reconvene at 5:30 p.m. for the regular meeting.
