New Hayes Center auction date set

A new auction date has been set for the Mariam and Robert Hayes Performing Arts Center in Blowing Rock.
The auction is now set for 12:30 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Watauga County Courthouse, according to an amended notice of sale filed Friday.
The original notice filed Tuesday called for an auction Aug. 14, and no information was provided about the reason for the change.
The roughly 26,000-square-foot center opened in 2006 at a cost of about $10 million. Just a few years later, the theater closed as it struggled to cover its mortgage and expenses.
