by Staff Reports
Police say Rainer Johannes Hoedl, 51, shot and killed a relative by marriage before robbing the Wells Fargo bank in Wilkesboro just before 10:30 a.m. Monday, the newspaper reported.
Authorities began searching for a white Chevrolet pickup truck Hoedl was believed to be driving, which was spotted by an N.C. Highway Patrol trooper near Pine Run Road outside Boone. Wilkes Sheriff Chris Shew told the Wilkes Journal-Patriot that Hoedl didn't resist after his vehicle was stopped. Watauga County sheriff's deputies assisted.
Hoedl was charged with first-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon, according to media reports. He was held without bond at the Wilkes County Jail.
Authorities believe a domestic dispute preceded the shooting death of George Moses Jr., 48, of Gold Mine Ridge Road in Wilkes County, the newspaper reported. He was found laying in his driveway with several gunshot wounds around 10 a.m. Monday, Shew said.
At 10:24 a.m., a white man entered the Wells Fargo bank, showed a gun and demanded money before leaving, the newspaper reported.
