Motorcyclist airlifted

by Jeff Eason and Kellen Moore

A Zebulon man was airlifted to Johnson City (Tenn.) Medical Center on Saturday after wrecking on his motorcycle near the Blue Ridge Mountain Club in southeastern Watauga County.

Trooper David Searcy said the rider appeared to have rounded a curve too fast and hit the brakes as he encountered gravel in the road at about 3:55 p.m. The rider was thrown from the Harley-Davidson motorcycle as it rolled off the left side of the road.

The 50-year-old's first name was unknown, but his last name was Duncan, Searcy said.

Personnel from Blowing Rock Fire and Rescue and Watauga Medics stabilized the injured man and transported him by ambulance to a field at the corner of Aho Road and the Blue Ridge Parkway where he was transported by stretcher to the waiting helicopter.

Searcy said the man's injuries did not appear to be very serious but that his condition was unknown as of Monday morning. Johnson City Medical Center could not provide additional information without a full name.

No charges have been filed.
