Motorcycle bursts into flames after wreck

Witnesses told Trooper D.R. Alexander that the rider was traveling south on N.C. 105 near the Avery County line around 7:45 p.m. when he moved to pass another vehicle traveling south.
For an unknown reason, the motorcycle cruised left of center and hit a guardrail, pitching the rider about 75 feet down an embankment, Alexander said.
The motorcycle slid about 100 feet along the highway and burst into flames, Alexander said.
WINGS Air Rescue responded to a landing zone near the crash to transport the injured man to the Tennessee hospital. Alexander said his identity and condition had not been confirmed as of Tuesday afternoon.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, he said.
"The motorcycle burnt to a crisp, and everything that could give me any information burned up with it," Alexander said.
