More than 50 area bank-owned properties to be auctioned

Iron Horse Auction Co. plans to auction off more than 50 properties in northwestern North Carolina currently owned by Yadkin Valley Financial Corp. beginning Feb. 6 and concluding Feb. 13.


The properties to be auctioned include lots in Watauga, Avery, Ashe, Caldwell, Wilkes and Alexander counties. With no minimum price requirements, the lots will be sold as is, free and clear of all liens, with all taxes paid up to the day of closing.


Bidding through the auction company's website begins at 8 a.m. Feb. 6 and ends at 2 p.m. Feb. 13. Buyers may bid in person on Wednesday, Feb. 13, beginning at 1 p.m. at the Town of Wilkesboro Civic Center, located at 1241 School St. in Wilkesboro.


Properties sold at the auction must be transferred and closed by March 20 at 5 p.m. A 20 percent deposit by bank wire or cashier's check is due within 24 hours after the end of the auction. A 7 percent buyer's premium will be added to the high bid price to determine the final auction contract purchase price.


The auctions are part of an accelerated disposition of problem assets to improve the quality of the bank's balance sheet that began in 2012, according to a recent press release from the bank. Boone's High Country Bank is a division of Yadkin Valley Bank and Trust Co.
