A speeding vehicle overturned Thursday morning after running off the road and hitting a billboard in Deep Gap, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.

 

Trooper Josh Hodges said the vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 421 around 7:30 a.m. when it left the highway in a curve just before Stoney Fork Road.

 

The vehicle hit a large billboard sign, and the impact caused the vehicle to roll onto its side, Hodges said.

 

The driver, Wilfredo Flores, 57, of South Slope Loop in Banner Elk, was taken to Watauga Medical Center, he said.

Flores was cited for exceeding safe speed, Hodges said.
