Man arrested on Rx drug charges

by Staff Reports

A six-month drug investigation ended Tuesday with the arrest of a Boone man on nine felony charges, according to police.

Boone Police Department arrested David Michael Hudson, 60, of 242 Tanner Road, Boone, on the evening of Jan. 29. When he was arrested, investigators located prescription pills and marijuana in his possession, they said.

"Every narcotics investigation is different, and these cases can take longer than other types of investigations depending on the particular case's variables and complexity," said Sgt. Chris Hatton of the Boone Police Department. "This investigation involved undercover officers making purchases of various prescription pills and psilocybin mushrooms directly from Hudson."

Police charged Hudson with nine felony counts:
— Trafficking in opium by possession
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms)
— Sale and delivery of a schedule I controlled substance (psilocybin mushrooms)
— Sale and delivery of a schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam/Xanax)
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance (oxycodone hydrochloride)
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule III controlled substance (suboxone)
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance (diazepam)
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam/Xanax)
— Possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana)

Hudson was held at the Watauga Detention Center in lieu of a $15,000 secured bond, and police are continuing to investigate people involved with Hudson in the drug trade.

"Our narcotics division works hard every day to identify and arrest drug dealers, but they need help from the community," said Capt. Andy Le Beau of the Boone Police Department. "If you have information about illegal drugs, please tell us about it. Crimestoppers is a great information-sharing venue that allows you to remain anonymous."
