Man airlifted after fall at Chetola
Medics were called to Lot Estes Drive within the resort shortly after 10 a.m. after the victim fell about 20 to 30 feet from scaffolding, Watauga Medics Director Craig Sullivan said.
The victim suffered a severe head injury and was shuttled to the Davant Field in Blowing Rock, where a helicopter flew him to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Blowing Rock Fire Chief Kent Graham said.
Graham said he believed the man, who was not a Chetola employee, was working to repair or maintain one of the buildings when he fell.
Dispatchers originally reported that the victim was unconscious and bleeding from the head, but he had regained consciousness by the time he was flown, Sullivan said.
No other information was available about the victim's identity or condition.
