Log truck breaks off wrecker, overturns
by Kellen Moore
Andy Augustine, general manager of Boone Custom Forest Products, said the truck originally broke down outside Blowing Rock. A wrecker from Hampton's Body Shop responded to haul the loaded truck back to the Forest Products headquarters on Roby Greene Road.
At the intersection of Bamboo Road and U.S. 421, the straps holding the truck on the wrecker broke, and the truck rolled backward onto a bank before overturning onto its side on Bamboo Road, Augustine said. In the process, it damaged a blue minivan and a gray pickup truck.
Boone Custom Forest Products brought a forklift and second truck to the scene to remove the 16 logs, which Augustine said measured 12 x 12 x 20 and weighed about 600 pounds apiece.
No injuries occurred as a result of the accident.
Travel on Bamboo Road was limited for some time after the 4:15 p.m. accident.
