by Kellen Short
Lees-McRae College women's basketball player Tracia Johnson was arrested after a run-in with police early Friday in Boone, according to police reports.
Johnson, 20, a forward from Conway, S.C., was yelling and shoving another woman when police arrived at the Cafe Portofino parking lot around 12:30 a.m. Friday, according to a report by Officer Jon Houck of the Boone Police Department.
As police intervened, Johnson ran toward Howard Street. Houck deployed his Taser, with one probe striking Johnson in the shoulder blade, the report states.
After a brief foot chase, Houck and Lt. Donnie Goodman "guided her to the ground" and handcuffed her, after which she became compliant.
Johnson was charged with resisting a public officer, being drunk and disruptive and underage consumption of alcohol, the report states. She was issued a $500 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29.
An Alco-Sensor test at the magistrate's office found Johnson's blood alcohol content to be 0.08, the report states. She did not report any injuries resulting from the incident.
Sports information representatives at Lees-McRae could not be reached by presstime Friday about the arrest.
ASU wide receiver Sean Price also was arrested on a drunk and disruptive charge
near the same location early Aug. 18. He also was cited for underage consumption of alcohol,
according to a police report.
Price has been suspended for an undetermined number of games.
