Kindergarten orientatation dates set

Kindergarten orientations have been scheduled this spring for children who will enter kindergarten in Watauga County Schools in August 2013.
The dates for orientation vary by school, starting with Bethel on March 28-29 and ending with Parkway on May 6-7. (See chart at bottom for complete dates.)
Kindergarten orientation is for children who will be 5 years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013. Children can be enrolled in kindergarten only at the school in their assigned attendance area, and parents must attend orientation at that school.
Parents who are uncertain which school attendance area they live in can confirm this information online through a link for "Attendance Area and Bus Route Information" available through the "Parent Links" heading on the WCS website ( http://www.watauga.k12.nc.us). Parents who need this information and do not have internet access should call Transportation Director Jeff Lyons at (828) 264-6391.
Parents need to bring the following documents to register children for kindergarten:
-- Certified original birth certificate
-- Proof of immunizations. The immunizations that must be documented include five for DPT (diphtheria/pertussis/tetanus), four for polio, three for Hepatitis B, two for MMR (mumps/measles/rubella) and one each for varicella (chickenpox) and Hib.
-- Copy of a physical exam completed since August 2012
-- Two documents providing proof of current address.
A complete list of the documents accepted for proof of residency is available on the Parent Links page of the WCS website or on request from school offices.
Parents should contact the school their child will attend to confirm orientation times and additional details about registration at their school.
If winter weather forces the postponement of orientation at Bethel, Cove Creek or Valle Crucis, the orientation dates at those schools will be shifted to April 18-19.
