Home burns on George Wilson Road

by Kellen Moore

A severe fire gutted a home on George Wilson Road in Boone on Friday afternoon.

Boone firefighters were called to 814 George Wilson Road at about 4:20 p.m., joined by firefighters from Foscoe and Cove Creek. The responders worked in 93-degree temperatures to battle the blaze.

The one-story brick house appeared severely damaged throughout by the fire and smoke, although the worst damage was concentrated on the right side of the house. The home's tax value is $168,000, according to Watauga County tax records.

No information was immediately available about the cause of the fire.

The emergency stopped traffic flow on George Wilson Road, and cars on the N.C. 105 Bypass above slowed to watch the smoke billowing from the structure.
