High Country Job Fair set for April 5

At least 19 employers will be looking for new hires during the High Country Job Fair on April 5 in Boone.

Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring copies of resumes to the event, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott on N.C. 105.

"It is a very wide variety of positions that are available, and it's a wonderful way for them to be able to meet multiple employers who have current openings for jobs and be able to get that face-to-face time," said Anita Lowe, manager of the Division of Workforce Solutions.

About 150 positions are available from regional employers, which will include: Watauga County Schools, Catawba Valley Staffing, AppalCART, Appalachian State University, Belk, Lowe's, Glenbridge Health and Rehabilitation, Tar Heel Capital, Appalachian Brian Estates, Convergys, Cracker Barrel, Meadowbrook Inn and Suites, Highland International and Appalachian Regional Healthcare System.

Several workshops have been offered in recent weeks, concluding with a final "Resume 101" prep class from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Watauga JobLink at 207 Winkler's Creek Road in Boone. Staff members also are available for one-on-one assistance, Lowe said.

"If they have a current resume, they can bring that current resume in," she said. "We'll be glad to five them some final tips to tweak that resume a little bit, and they can go ahead and preregister (for the Job Fair)."
