Heavy rains fall on region

A flash flood watch remains in effect for the region, issued by the National Weather Service in Blacksburg, Va.

The NWS is forecasting occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms for the Watauga County area this morning, then showers with isolated thunderstorms this afternoon.

Some thunderstorms may produce gusty winds and heavy rainfall this afternoon, according to the weather service. Locally heavy rainfall is possible this morning.

Near steady temperature will be in the mid-60s, with southwest winds 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain is near 100 percent. Tonight will be mostly cloudy. Showers will be mainly in the evening. It will be cooler, with lows in the upper 40s. Northwest winds will be 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain is 80 percent.
