Halloween's a scream

Everyone's favorite haunted holiday arrives this Thursday, Oct. 31. Whether you're trick-or-treating with little kids or look for something a little spookier this Halloween week, here are some events to check out.

-- Haunted Horn Halloween Trail at Horn in the West, Oct. 30-31 from 7:30-11 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for Watauga High students with identification.

-- First Baptist Church Fall Festival, Oct. 30 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

-- First Presbyterian Church Fall Festival, Oct. 30 from 6-7:30 p.m.

-- Boone Boo, Oct. 31 from 4-6 p.m. The event will begin with crafts and activities at the Watauga County Library, followed by a parade to the Jones House and trick-or-treating at downtown businesses.

-- Trick-or-Treat for Tots at Appalachian State University, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.  Children are invited to trick-or-treat at any East Campus residence halls.

-- Trunk or Treat at Howard's Creek Baptist Church, Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.

-- Trunk or Treat at Boone United Methodist Church, Oct. 31 from 6:30-8 p.m.

-- Mount Vernon Baptist Church Fall Festival, Oct. 31 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

-- Don Winsley's Electric Halloween at Legends, Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. Admission is $4 for advance tickets or $6 at the door.

-- Halloween Monster Concert, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in Broyhill Music Center's Rosen Concert Hall. Admission is free and costumes are encouraged.

-- Halloween Ball, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. in the Plemmons Student Union at Appalachian. Admission is $5 in advance and $7 at the door.

-- Trick-or-Treating at the Boone Mall, Oct. 31 from 5-7 p.m.

-- Ghost Train at Tweetsie Railroad, Nov. 1-2. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $28 per person. Children under 2 enter for free.
