Golden Corral closes in Boone
by Allison Haver
The Golden Corral in Boone closed its doors Sunday for financial reasons, according to franchise owner Dave Gronewoller.
"(The costs of) business became too high, and it was ultimately a financial decision," Gronewoller said.
Gronewoller is the president of GC Partners Inc., a Winston-Salem-based company that owns and operates several Golden Corral locations across the Carolinas and Florida.
GC Partners Inc. are currently looking to sell or lease the now vacant property and are in the process of talking to a few interested businesses, according to Gronewoller.
"We have been talking to both restaurant and retail businesses who are interested in the property," said Gronewoller.
The restaurant's 46 employees
were not notified of the decision to close before Monday, according to several employees.
Kendra Fletcher, who had been an employee at the Golden Corral in Boone for a year and a half, said she was very surprised the restaurant closed.
"I didn't find out until (Monday) morning that it closed," she said. "No one else I worked with knew either, including my boss, he found out the (Sunday) night before.
According to Gronewoller, GC Partners Inc. will do the best it can to assist the former employees.
"We are doing everything we can to get every employee taken care of and employed again," Gronewoller said.
