by Staff Reports

"Life in Boone -- How Sweet It Is" was evident in downtown Friday as the town celebrated the Fourth of July with a hometown parade.

"How Sweet It Is" was the theme for the parade, which drew hundreds of spectators along its route to view more than 65 entries involving floats, marchers, vehicles and participants go by. Grand marshals were former Watauga Red Cross director Sonny Sweet and his wife, Bricca.

Following the parade, Independence Day festivities continued at the Jones House Community Center in downtown, featuring music from the Fat Face Band and Liz Hayes and Common Threads.

During the evening, family activities and a fireworks display were held at the Clawson/Burnley Park.
