Four-vehicle wreck causes injury, delay
by Kellen Moore
The wreck occurred shortly after 8 a.m. as Julianna Bond, 17, was turning left from Linville Creek Road onto U.S. 421 toward Boone, according to Trooper T.C. Williams of the N.C. Highway Patrol.
She pulled into the path of a box truck traveling away from Boone, which swerved left of center to try to avoid a collision, Williams said. The box truck, driven by Russell Hollar of Lenoir, hit the front of Bond's Ford Escape.
The truck then smashed into a Ford Explorer driven by Kristen Carter of Vilas that was traveling toward Boone, pushing that vehicle backward into a Dodge SUV driven by Blaine Cornett of Vilas, Williams said.
Medics took Bond to Watauga Medical Center for treatment of an arm injury, and a passenger from the Dodge vehicle also traveled to the hospital on her own, Williams said.
Bond was cited for failure to yield, he said.
The wreck blocked both travel lanes and caused responders to reroute traffic through the parking lot of Brushy Fork Baptist Church until the road was cleared around 10 a.m.
