Flash flood watch in effect

by Anna Oakes

The National Weather Service office in Blacksburg, Va., has issued a flash flood watch for Watauga County and surrounding areas to the north and east from early Tuesday through 12 a.m. Thursday.

"A series of upper level waves will pass across through Tuesday night, and then the passage of a cold front on Wednesday will result in two to three rounds of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms for most of the region," the NWS stated.

"Locally heavy rainfall rates may cause flash flooding of creeks and streams, as well as in urban areas," it said. "This amount of rain could also cause flooding on main stem rivers by the middle of the week."
