Firm selected for broadband project

by Staff Reporter

ONUG Communications, a communications engineering solutions provider, announced today that it has selected Raleigh based S&ME to provide the environmental assessment for the MCNC North Carolina Research and Education Network (NCREN) proposed 255 mile fiber optic route covering Western North Carolina.

ONUG Communications was selected by MCNC to engineer and design 500 miles of broadband infrastructure in 37 counties in rural southeastern and western North Carolina. This project is funded by MCNC's January 2010 Federal broadband recovery grant of $28.2 million awarded by the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration's (NTIA) Broadband Technologies Opportunities Program (BTOP). The BTOP program is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
