Fire destroys Beaver Dam home
Beaver Dam Volunteer Fire Department was called to the single-story house on Mountain Dale Road around 6:15 a.m., said Chief James Sherwood. The fire caused the roof to collapse in part of the house and water and smoke damage to the remainder, he said.
Fire Marshal Steve Sudderth said the house at 3560 Mountain Dale Road, owned by D.L. Moody, was a total loss.
"We feel sure it was an accidental fire, but the exact cause, we're leaving it undetermined because there were several things that we couldn't rule out," he said.
Sherwood said the man who owned the home was staying with a relative nearby. The Red Cross also is assisting with his immediate needs, Sudderth said.
Cove Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Watauga Medics and Watauga Rescue Squad also assisted with the call.
