Fire damages Blowing Rock structure
by Kellen Moore
Firefighters responded early Friday morning to a structure fire in the Saddle Hills neighborhood off U.S. 221 in Blowing Rock.
Blowing Rock and Boone firefighters responded to the home on River Gorge Vista around 12:30 a.m., according to Watauga County Assistant Fire Marshal Paul Buchanan.
Buchanan said the building was formerly a living area for employees of adjacent Westglow Resort and Spa, but it was unoccupied when the fire started.
The spa experienced a fire in its main laundry facility a couple of weeks ago and was using the building for occasional laundry needs, he said.
The laundry room itself suffered heavy internal and external damage, and an adjoining room also was damaged by the fire, Buchanan said. He estimated that the damage totaled about $50,000 to $60,000.
Buchanan said the exact cause of the fire was still being determined.
