Earthquake hits near Blowing Rock

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.1 magnitude earthquake occurred at 1:57 a.m. on Saturday. Its epicenter was approximately 2.3 miles east-northeast of downtown Blowing Rock, in the Aho area near the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Residents of that area reported a loud rumbling, structures shaking and dogs barking.
The official epicenter was listed by the USGS at 36.178 degrees north by 81.635 degrees west, with a depth of 11.6 kilometers or 7.2 miles.
No damage was reported from the earthquake.
The earthquake's epicenter was close to that of an Aug. 25, 2013, earthquake that struck approximately 2.9 miles north-northeast of Blowing Rock. That earthquake registered 2.6 on the Richter Scale, according to the USGS.
