Donations for Mast family to be accepted at ASU football opener

by Staff Reports

Volunteers will accept donations for the William Hunter Mast Scholarship Fund prior to ASU's football home opener Saturday at Kidd Brewer Stadium.

The fund was established to endow college tuition costs for William Hunter Mast, the newborn son of late Watauga County Sheriff Deputy William Mast Jr.

Mast was shot and killed while responding to a 911 call on July 26, less than three weeks before the birth of his son.

"It is a privilege to honor the memory of Deputy Mast at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Saturday," Appalachian State director of athletics Charlie Cobb said. "We are proud of the Watauga County community’s response to the tragic death of Deputy Mast and the outpouring of support for his wife, Paige, and son, William, and hope that the Appalachian family will be generous in their support of the William Hunter Mast Scholarship Fund on Saturday."
