District attorney candidates forum April 28
by Anna Oakes
A district attorney candidates forum is scheduled from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the large Superior Courtroom in the Watauga County Courthouse, located at 842 W. King St. in Boone. Doors will open at 5 p.m.
Watauga County DART/SART and the Watauga County Bar Association will host the forum on behalf of 24th Prosecutorial District communities, local attorneys and Watauga County DART/SART members.
Three Republicans -- Nathan Miller of Boone, Seth Banks of Burnsville and Britt Springer of Boone -- have filed as candidates for the district attorney's seat, with no candidates from other parties filing. That means the May 6 primary election will unofficially decide the contest.
The 24th Prosecutorial District includes Avery, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga and Yancey counties.
Questions will be accepted from community members, local attorneys and members of DART/SART and will be distributed to the candidates a week prior to the event.
DART and SART are Domestic Assault and Sexual Assault Response Teams that meet monthly and include community collaborators from the OASIS women's shelter and crisis prevention agency, law enforcement, hospitals, Appalachian State University and other helping agencies to provide comprehensive and compassionate care to victims of sexual assault and domestic violence.
For more information or to submit questions for the forum, contact Anne Duvoisin Fisher, president of the Watauga County Bar Association, at (919) 781-1107, (828) 295-7469 or (email@example.com) or Liz Mason, chairwoman of Watauga DART/SART, at (828) 264-1532 or (firstname.lastname@example.org)
