Cultural Resources Board to meet
by Anna Oakes
The Boone Cultural Resources Advisory Board meets at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the Jones House Cultural and Community Center.
The board agenda includes a review of the discussion and action taken by the Boone Town Council in September with regard to the town-owned Daniel Boone Park property. In September, the board recommended that the town fund a study of needed improvements at Daniel Boone Park, but the town council instead directed staff to develop a list of short-term improvements needed at the park -- which includes the "Horn in the West" amphitheater -- prior to next summer.
The board is also scheduled to discuss a draft license agreement for the Southern Appalachian Historical Association's use of Daniel Boone Park. SAHA for years has leased the property to produce "Horn in the West" and operate the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum, but the Boone Town Council voted in July to switch to a licensing system to maintain its rights to the property and potentially open up the property to more users.
In addition, the board is to discuss the rental fees and policies for private use of the Jones House, another town property, as well as the Cultural Resources Department programming budget.
