County explores grant feasibility

by Melanie Marshall

The Watauga County Department of Planning and Inspections is exploring the feasibility of a pursuing a grant to remove abandoned manufactured homes.

Brent Graybeal with the county planning department is seeking input from contractors capable of hauling manufactured homes or deconstructing on site to determine the costs associated.

"The Board of Commissioners is exploring this opportunity because the removal of abandoned manufactured homes can be financially difficult for some property owners," Graybeal said.

The application would also benefit the county by providing work for area contractors during a difficult time, he added.

Contractors capable of towing or deconstruction are asked to submit cost estimates. For more information, contact the planning and inspections office at (828) 265-8043.

Eligible contractors must maintain worker's compensation coverage, general liability and automobile insurances, and other insurance as appropriate.
