Council approves towing change
by Anna Oakes
The Boone Town Council on Thursday voted unanimously to enact a change to the town towing ordinance banning the towing of occupied vehicles.
The town code amendment states that "no towing company may attach a towing vehicle to an occupied vehicle, tow a vehicle which is occupied, nor demand payment pursuant to this chapter in connection with an occupied vehicle. This chapter does not authorize a towing company to attempt to impede or block an occupied vehicle from being removed from a parking space or lot."
In other action, the council:
• agreed to contribute town staff hours to the construction of a Watauga County Law Enforcement Memorial at the Sheriff's Office campus.
• granted a permit to organizers of the Howard Street Exchange Fair, which will take place on Sunday, April 13, from 12 to 5 p.m. The council agreed to fully waive the town's $1,500 special event permit fee.
