Commissioners to consider renaming library
by Kellen Moore
Watauga County commissioners will consider a request Tuesday to rename the Watauga County Library the Evelyn Shook Johnson Memorial Library.
Johnson was a librarian there for 36 years before her death last month.
"Historically, the county has not named facilities after individuals, and thus does not have an official naming policy," a memo to commissioners reads.
The only county facility currently named for a person is the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center, named for the first Project on Aging director who was killed in an automobile accident, the agenda states.
Peggy Hartley is expected to make the request to the board.
The county manager may create an official naming policy for county facilities at the commissioners' request.
The commissioners' meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
