Christmas cavalcade rolls through

by Anna Oakes

Bundled up in puffy coats, warm gloves, cozy hats and even blankets, hundreds braved temperatures in the 30s to take in the sights and sounds of the Boone Christmas Parade Saturday morning.

Dozens of entries walked or wheeled down the parade route on King Street from Horn in the West Drive to the Poplar Grove Extension, with the cavalcade comprising the typical representation of elected officials, fancy cars and trucks, church groups, musicians, fire trucks and community organizations.

Bringing up the rear, of course, was Jolly Old Saint Nick.

The parade is presented annually by the town of Boone and the Downtown Boone Development Association.

Additional Boone holiday activities include the DBDA and Watauga County Public Library's Christmas Story Walk, which continues through Jan. 2. Families are invited to begin the walk at the library, reading pages of the children's storybook "If You Take a Mouse to the Movies" at various stops along Depot Street and King Street.
