Chancellor search committee to meet, but no announcement yet
by Anna Oakes
Appalachian State University's board of trustees and Chancellor Search Committee will meet successively via conference call Wednesday, but they're not ready to make an announcement on ASU's next leader.
The ASU trustees early last month recommended two candidates to University of North Carolina system President Tom Ross, who will make the final hiring decision. But trustees Chairman Mike Steinback said Monday that Ross has not announced his selection.
"(President) Ross has not made any determination yet. Nothing definitive," Steinback said Monday.
Steinback, who also chairs the Chancellor Search Committee, said he called the meetings to keep communications open and to discuss potential announcement dates.
ASU Chancellor Ken Peacock announced last spring that he would be stepping down from the university's No. 1 role, a post he has held for a decade.
The Chancellor Search Committee formed in August and in January recommended three finalists, but one of the candidates accepted a position at another institution.
Speaking in February, Steinback said he anticipated that Ross would make a decision by mid-March.
The board of trustees will meet in closed session by conference call at 10 a.m. Wednesday, followed by the committee meeting at 11 a.m., also in closed session.
