Campus warns against high-risk drinking

Blalock, a 19-year-old student from Charlotte, died after falling into Kraut Creek in ASU's Durham Park during the early morning of Sept. 29, 2012. Witnesses said he had been drinking heavily before the accidental drowning.
Exactly 1,825 colored flags were placed Sunday in Durham Park to represent the number of students who die annually on college campuses from alcohol-related causes. The flags will remain in place through Wednesday.
In a blog post Monday, Dean of Students J.J. Brown reflected on the impact Blalock's death had on the campus and urged students to watch out for one another's safety. He directed the community to information about alcohol available at wellness.appstate.edu/pagesmith/43.
"Alcohol can have -- and has had -- an effect on our individual stories and experiences, as well as our campus," Brown wrote.
