Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute plans to begin constructing a new building on its Watauga campus in early 2013.
College officials appeared before the Boone Town Council Nov. 15 to request a water allocation of 750 gallons per day for the new building. The campus is located off of the N.C. 105 bypass in the town's extraterritorial jurisdiction. The council approved the request.
The building will range in size from 7,000 to 8,000 square feet and will house six classrooms and a few administrative offices. It will be located between the new Occupational Training Facility and the Basic Skills Building, said Edward Terry, public information officer for CCC&TI.
"We are still in the bidding process for the project," Terry said. "We hope to have the bidding concluded in the next 30 days. Plans include beginning construction in early 2013."
Terry said the building would be a multipurpose facility utilized for curriculum and continuing education courses.
"The new building will allow us to consolidate all of our programs, facilities and offerings onto one property, which has been a long-term goal for our Watauga campus," said Terry. "Currently, our Continuing Education program is housed at a facility on Healthcare Drive in Boone, off Bamboo Road."
