Boone woman injured in van rollover

A Boone woman was trapped in her van on Sunday after it rolled down an embankment off of Rich Mountain Road.

The accident caused a rescue effort to remove the injured driver and lone passenger from the overturned vehicle. 

The crash occurred just before 1:00 p.m. when the caller reported hearing calls for help from someone trapped in a van that was well off of Rich Mountain Road near Meat Camp.

Meat Camp first responders, Watauga Rescue and Watauga Medics responded to the incident.

The '92 Chevrolet van was found about 50 feet off of the road near 4840 Rich Mountain Road according to responders.

Responders worked to free the woman, who was trapped by the steering wheel of the van. 

Evelyn Miller, 24, reported that she blacked out while traveling Rich Mountain Road, and came to while the van was flipping over as it fell down the steep hill according to N.C. Highway Patrol.

Miller was cited for left of center in the crash that totaled her van.
