Boone council's new schedule begins this week
by Anna Oakes
The Boone Town Council's new meeting schedule begins this week on Monday and Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Council Chambers on Blowing Rock Road.
The council voted last month to alter is regular monthly meeting schedule in an attempt to shorten the length of meetings. For several years, the council has met each month at 6:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday and following Thursday.
Mayor Andy Ball's meeting proposal establishes an "agenda-setting meeting" to take place every third Monday of the month. At that meeting, council members will receive information and determine agenda items for which there is consensus -- and add them to a consent agenda for adoption as a slate at the following Thursday's meeting.
Other agenda items will be discussed separately and in greater detail at the Thursday meeting.
The council will implement the new schedule for a six-month trial period.
Matters on this month's agenda include code amendments related to extraterritorial jurisdiction representative appointments and the Affordable Housing Task Force, TDA expenditures, transportation projects, an update on Daniel Boone Park repairs and multiple requests for water and sewer service on Paul Critcher Road.
