Boone council to meet Tuesday and Thursday
by Anna Oakes
The Boone Town Council's regular monthly meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 17 and 19, at the Council Chambers at 1500 Blowing Rock Road.
On Tuesday, town attorney Sam Furgiuele will present information about laws passed in the 2013 General Assembly session that amend procedures for boards of adjustment. Furgiuele will also present a draft license agreement for the Southern Appalachian Historical Association's use of the town's Daniel Boone Park property.
SAHA has traditionally leased the property to produce "Horn in the West" and operate the Hickory Ridge Living History Museum, but the Boone Town Council voted in July to switch to a licensing system to maintain its rights to the property and potentially open up the property to more users.
The council will also consider a recommendation from the Cultural Resources Advisory Board to fund a study of needed improvements at Daniel Boone Park.
The council will hear updates on the renovation of the downtown post office and potential uses of the facility.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, the council will consider water allocation requests from Stonegate Developers for a mixed-use project at the Scottish Inn and Red Carpet Inn sites on Blowing Rock Road and from Cornerstone Campus Communities for a mixed-use project on Shadowline Drive.
